John Baker Baits

Went down the Hants Avon recently and you can see the pic. of the result...a loveley 14.02 whiskers, picked up a small 'taste' boilie. It was immaculate and looked like it had never been caught before. An hour after I put it back, a big otter surfaced in my swim, so I hope the fish is still alive! Barbel seem to be spookey over beds of bait, possible because people are still chucking in excessive amounts of high-oil content pellets. I saw a barbel angler baiting up in several different swims the other day, he was throwing in several handfuls of halibut pellets intio each spot. Does he realise he is not really baiting-up. The fish altready know what pellets are...he's just feeding them! Apart fronm the fact that the 45% oil content of these pellets will put barbel off the feed for upwards of a week. Barbel are omnivores, and they cannnot tolerate too much of this type of rich food which is designed to feed sea fish not cyprinoids.
